En la disputa que mantiene con Microsoft por el control de Internet, el gigante de los buscadores lanza su primer sistema operativo para discutir la hegemonía de Windows. Agil, rápido y gratuito, estaría destinado sólo a Netbooks y Smartbooks. ANUNCIO INMINENTE. El sitio especializado Endgadget.com estima que la Netbook con Chrome OS será similar a la de esta imagen. Difícilmente, allá por septiembre de 1998, Microsoft haya imaginado que ese buscador de sitios webs que fundaban Larry Page y Sergey Brin, dos estudiantes de la Universidad de Stanford, iba a pelearle palmo a palmo el control de Internet poco más de una década después. Se trata, claro, de Google, que hoy confirmó los rumores que circularon en las últimas horas al anunciar que tiene "emocionantes noticias" para compartir. Se descuenta que se trata de la presentación en sociedad de su primer sistema operativo: el Chrome OS. El anuncio, anticipado por el sitio especializado Engadget.com, se hará el próximo martes en una conferencia de prensa en San Francisco. De esta manera, Google cumplirá con el gran anhelo de lanzar un competidor a Microsoft Windows, que desde 1981 mantiene su hegemonía. En principio, se estima que Google pondría en el mercado una versión beta de Chrome OS y cerca de 65 mil unidades, gratuitas, destinadas a un círculo exclusivo de personas especialmente seleccionadas. Y, además, sería solamente utilizado en Netbooks y Smartbooks bajo la marca Google. Al menos inicialmente, no estará disponible para PC. Mientras que a los celulares y las tablets, Google los seguirá asistiendo con el Android. Si bien, tal como suelen hacer la mayoría de empresas ante el lanzamiento de productos importantes, no hay demasiadas certezas sobre las características del sistema operativo, trascendió que Chrome Os privilegiará la rapidez a la seguridad, aunque sin descuidarla, claro. Acaso advertido por la experiencia –y el dolor de cabeza- que le trajo a Microsoft el Windows Vista. Al menos eso se desprende de lo que Daniel Helft, gerente de Google, le explicó a Clarín allá por 2009, cuando la empresa anunció que se iba a encomendar al proyecto Chrome OS: "Velocidad, simplicidad y seguridad son los aspectos destacados del sistema operativo. La idea es estar conectado en pocos pasos y que se pueda iniciar en unos pocos segundos". Como característica principal, Chrome OS será de código abierto, con kernel Linux y base en Debian, con un gestor de ventanas de Google. Una nueva batalla virtual, entonces, se acerca. Más atrás quedó el intento de Microsoft de mermar la penetración de Google con el lanzamiento del buscador Bing. También el golpe que buscó dar Google para debilitar el liderazgo de Explorer entre los navegadores lanzando el Chrome. Hubo más, por supuesto. La lucha se dio –y da- en todos los frentes. Es que estos dos gigantes del mundo informático parecen no estar dispuestos a darse tregua. En el congreso Chaos Communication Congress, que se acaba de celebrar en Berlín, el equipo de crackers demostró la técnica desarrollada para crear el jailbreak de la consola más dura de roer de la historia, y sin necesidad de un dongle USB como habíamos conocido meses atrás. Los más entendidos en la materia seguro podrán comprender mejor lo realizado en los videos al final de la nota, pero básicamente lo que hizo ‘fail0verflow’ fue calcular todas las ‘llaves privadas’ de la PS3 de forma que ahora cualquier mortal pueda firmar software para la consola. Además lograron el jailbreak definitivo desbordando el sistema de inicio reemplazando el ‘NOR flash’ interno. Así es como el firmware actual – y si Sony no toma cartas en el asunto los próximos también – fue completamente vulnerado. Se cree que será muy complejo para la compañía contrarrestar este golpe bajo. Hay que reconocer que resistió cerca de 4 años incólume, pero todo veranito de San Juan llega a su fin. Si todo resulta ser cierto esto abre la posibilidad de crear ‘homebrews’ y firmwares personalizados. La profecía maya del 2012 no existe segun expertos El 22 de diciembre de 2012 no se acabará el mundo, ni ocurrirá una catástrofe; tampoco existe alguna profecía maya al respecto como se ha divulgado en algunas afirmaciones sin sustento científico, advirtieron especialistas del Centro de Estudios Mayas (CEM), del Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas (IIFl) de la UNAM. En su calendario, los mayas no describieron una profecía, sino el término de un ciclo de 13 bactunes, equivalentes a cinco mil 125 años, y el inicio de otra etapa, aclaró María del Carmen Valverde Valdés, coordinadora del CEM. Esa cultura tenía una noción circular del tiempo, lo que significa que la historia, en algún momento se repetir, explicó la también historiadora y doctora en estudios mesoamericanos. Para ellos, cuando se escriben los anales se hace una profecía, pues es una concepción cíclica donde los hechos se repiten; si se habla de sus vaticinios, en realidad se trata de lo que registraron de su propia historia, en una forma de escritura la del maya yucateco que es siempre críptica y simbólica, precisó. El calendario maya se ha estudiado y descifrado desde finales del siglo XIX, entonces, se comenzó a desarrollar una analogía de las fechas de los calendarios maya y occidental. “En esa correlación hay varias discrepancias entre investigadores, que van de días hasta años”, indicó. CICLOS DE 13 BACTUNES Un bactún es una unidad de tiempo maya equivalente a 144 mil días del calendario occidental; multiplicada por 13 bactunes, esa cifra arroja un ciclo de cinco mil 125 años, que concluirá el 22 de diciembre de 2012. Entonces, acabará un período y comenzará otro, sin que ningún glifo se refiera al fin del mundo o de la humanidad. No existe nada así en las inscripciones de esa cultura, precisó Tomás Pérez Suárez, también investigador del CEM. El 22 de diciembre de 2012, en el ciclo calendárico maya, terminará un ciclo de cinco mil 125 años y comenzará uno nuevo, pero en ninguna inscripción se menciona que vaya a ser el fin del mundo, reiteró el arqueólogo. Si se cierra una etapa de 13 bactunes, inicia otra igual, y es lo único que va a suceder, los mayas jamás hablaron del Apocalipsis, de destrucción, ni de cataclismo. Al respecto, Valverde Valdés destacó que el calendario ritual maya (distinto del solar, y de 260 días) es una combinación de 20 signos con 13 números, de los cuales los sagrados son el nueve, relacionado con el inframundo, y el 13, asociado al supramundo, equivalente al cielo para la concepción occidental. Valverde consideró posible que haya algún tipo de celebración en diciembre de 2012, pues existe una corriente “neomaya”, sobre todo en Guatemala, involucrada en esa festividad. Existen grupos que conservan su calendario, pero una de las cosas que han hecho que esa cultura sobreviva es adaptarse a las circunstancias. Microsoft presenta la versión definitiva de WebMatrix Microsoft ya tiene a punto la versión final de WebMatrix el software que proporciona herramientas a los usuarios para crear y administrar sitios web de forma gratuita y sencilla. WebMatrix, cuya versión de prueba se presentó el pasado mes de junio, es un conjunto de herramientas y plantillas que agilizan el desarrollo de sitios web y facilitam su creación a partir de aplicaciones populares de código abierto, según explican desde la compañía. Además, “las habilidades y el código que se desarrollen con WebMatrix se pueden trasladar sin problemas a Visual Studio y a SQL Server” y permite su uso con aplicaciones de abiertas PHP como WordPress, Joomla, DotNetNuke o Umbraco. Según explican desde la firma, hasta 40 aplicaciones open source soportan WebMatrix, con plantillas ASP o PHP almacenadas en la Web Applications Gallery de Microsoft. El objetivo de la compañía es hacer que “el desarrollo web y la tecnología de Microsoft sean más accesibles a un público más amplio”, según explica Brian Goldfarb, director de marketing de plataforma de desarrolladores de Microsoft. Este paquete de software incluye IIS Express (un servidor Web de desarrollo), ASP.NET (un marco Web) y SQL Server Compact (una base de datos empotrada).
